Dr Ravi Kumar is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the J C Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, India.
Prior to joining J C Bose University in January 2020, he worked at Kurukshetra University and Dyal Singh College, Karnal. He earned his B.Sc. (Non-Medical) and M.Sc. (Chemistry) with specialization in Organic Chemistry from Kurukshetra University during 1995-98 and 1998-2000, respectively. Thereafter, he worked in the research group of Prof Om Prakash and Prof Pawan Kumar Sharma at Kurukshetra University as CSIR-Junior/Senior Research fellow and was awarded Ph.D. degree in the area of Organic Synthesis in 2005. Before completing his Ph.D. degree, he started his academic career as Lecturer at Department of Chemistry, Kurukshetra University in Aug 2004 and later moved to Dyal Singh College Karnal where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2017.
Overall, Dr Kumar has twenty years of post-Ph.D. research experience in the broad area of organic synthesis. Dr Kumar's research group has contributed significantly to the field of hypervalent iodine compounds in organic synthesis and developed numerous organic transformations in the area of hypervalent iodine and heterocyclic compounds. He has successfully completed three research grants (two by DST and one seed grant by JCBoseUST, YMCA) in the area of hypervalent iodine. His scientific contributions have shaped into more than 50 research papers in international journals of repute. 04 PhD students have graduated from Dr Kumar’s research group and more than 35 masters students have been trained in different areas of organic synthesis.
Dr Kumar has been actively involved in institute building as Chairperson, Department of Chemistry (Jan 2024-Present), Coordinator (Convener), NEP implementation committee. He has actively contributed to the university and Department of Chemistry as member of various academic committees, IQAC, Central purchase committee, Board of Faculty of Sciences, etc.
