Overview of the Department

Overview of the Department

Established in 2018, the Department of Environmental Sciences at J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, emerged from its earlier affiliation with the Department of Humanities and Sciences. The department began by offering M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences and Ph.D. programs, which had been functional since 2016. With growing environmental challenges and the urgent need for skilled professionals, the department expanded its academic scope to include Postgraduate Diploma in Waste Management and Minor Degree Programme in Environmental Analysis and Management.

It plays a crucial academic role by offering the mandatory Environmental Sciences course across all undergraduate programs of the university.

Driven by a committed, research-oriented faculty, the department has significantly enhanced its academic offerings, research infrastructure, and laboratory capabilities, aspiring to become a nationally recognized hub for environmental education and sustainable innovation.

Core Academic and Research Thrust Areas

The department promotes interdisciplinary teaching and research in critical areas of environmental sciences. Key thrust areas include:

  • ·       Sustainable Water and Wastewater Treatment Technologies
  • ·       Air Pollution Monitoring and Control
  • ·       Environmental Green Nanotechnology
  • ·       Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Source Apportionment
  • ·       Solid Waste Management
  • ·       Bioremediation and Low-Cost Sustainable Technologies
  • ·       Microplastic Pollution and Bio waste Technology

These areas are embedded in academic curricula, research projects, and outreach activities to address local, regional and global environmental concerns.
